PRESIDENT’S
COLUMN
From the IAEA Membership and readers of The
Assessors Journal, a warm welcome to Phil Briggs
(pictured left, with David Punter Past President,
the new President Institute of Automotive Engineer
Assessors.
With a career spanning over three decades in the automotive sector, Phil has cultivated a deep understanding of
the industry, from aftersales and bodyshop operations to engineering and software development, with a career
staring in the dealership environment, eventually transitioning into roles as an independent engineer, staff engineer,
and regional auditor within the insurance sector having held the position of Group operations manager for a large,
privately owned Bodyshop group.
His experience has also extended into IT and data markets, where he introduced software solutions to the UK
market, signi昀椀cantly enhancing operational ef昀椀ciency.
As the owner of Freedom Assessors, he is committed to delivering engineering excellence and fostering the next
generation of professionals through rigorous training and adherence to the highest industry standards.
Every team member at Freedom Assessors is required to pass the exacting standards set by the IAEA, ensuring that
they maintain the highest level of quality and service.

David Punter, IAEA Past President, welcomed Phil:
“Over the last two years Phil has played an integral part of the council executive team driving change for the IAEA
and contributing to the completion of our 昀椀ve-year plan which ends at the close of 2025. From this point I will assist
the IAEA executive as immediate Past President working on the new 昀椀ve-year plan under the presidency of Phil.
“The next 昀椀ve years will see much change for the IAEA I am sure under the initial service of Phil, who has a vision
focusing on training and education, and we expect to see many great opportunities opening up for the organisation
which will improve understanding and perception of the IAEA as a core and relevant stakeholder in the market place
for decades to come.
“I would like to thank Phil for his support during my term in of昀椀ce and hope to offer him the same in my post
presidential role to add value to the Exec, Council, and the wider IAEA membership.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Darren Power for his support for council over the last good
number of years and wish him well for his future endeavours.”
