fascinating anecdotes about the
development and operation of
advanced weapons and radar systems,
as well as memorable experiences with
his colleagues, David also touched on
the evolution of avionics technology
over the years. He explained how
advancements in computer technology
and materials science have transformed
the way aircraft are designed and
operated. The integration of digital
systems has allowed for greater
precision and reliability in both
training and combat scenarios. His
explanations were punctuated with
technical details that showcased his
expertise, yet he managed to keep
the audience engaged by relating
these advancements to real-world
applications. For instance, he discussed
how the Harrier’s ability to operate
from small ships and land in con昀椀ned
spaces was a game changer in military
operations, thanks in part to its
advanced avionics.
Although slightly off-piste and away
from motor engineering, it was
interesting to see how both 昀椀elds
share so many similarities, from
welding, painting, protection of alloys,
electronic guidance, alloy riveting and
so many more transferable skills and
technologies. We were all enlightened
how aviation and its manufacturing
processes have made a huge
contribution into the workplace today.
David discussed many engineering
topics and his knowledge is clearly
widespread, the audience was
captivated by David’s intimate
knowledge of the aircraft he played
such an integral part in helping to test
and maintain.
As the talk drew to a close, David
invited the audience to take part
in a Q&A session which sparked a
lively debate and further interesting
anecdotes, each question was
answered with a high level of
knowledge and enthusiasm. Many
remarked on how his anecdotes made
the technical aspects of avionics more
relatable and understandable.
The Reigate Manor Hotel provided
an intimate setting that fostered a
sense of community among those
present, and David’s talk served as a
reminder of the importance of sharing
knowledge and experiences within the
engineering community.
David not only showcased the
complexities of avionics systems but
also highlighted the human element
behind engineering achievements. The
event left attendees inspired and eager
to learn more about the fascinating
world of aviation engineering.

JDA KEY FORENSICS
Speaker - Jonathan Ashworth
Jonathan Ashworth will provide
an overview of JDA Key Forensics,
explaining who they are, what
they do in terms of vehicle key
examination services, and how they
operate.
Insurance fraud poses a signi昀椀cant
threat to the automotive industry,
leading to 昀椀nancial losses and
increased premiums for honest
policyholders. As technology
continues to advance, leveraging
data acquisition from vehicle car
keys has become a crucial tool
in preventing insurance fraud. By
utilising the unique information
embedded in car key data, insurers
can enhance their fraud detection
capabilities, resulting in more
accurate risk assessments and
reduced 昀椀nancial losses.
As technology evolves, the insurance
industry must proactively adopt and
adapt these innovations to safeguard
the interests of both insurers and
policyholders. Car key data is
also vital in theft investigations
and accident analysis, providing
detailed information that can now
be obtained from certain keys.
Jonathan will present case studies
of recent incidents, demonstrating
how key data reports are used to
detect fraudulent activities. He
will also bring equipment for a live
demonstration and close with a Q&A
session.
