GREEN PARTS
SYNETIQ was one of the 昀椀rst salvage operators to sign up to the VRA Green Parts Standard
and was the 昀椀rst dismantler to provide a sustainability certi昀椀cate for customers.
THE GROWING USE OF
GREEN PARTS
The Vehicle Recyclers Association (VRA) introduced an independently audited standard
for green parts in 2020 to help deliver greater trust and transparency in the supply chain
and, in so doing, drive up sales of reusable parts from end-of-life vehicles. There are now
130 certi昀椀ed recyclers, with 80 that have been through multiple rounds of certi昀椀cation.
Here, in the 昀椀rst of a series, we discuss with SYNETIQ an IAA company, LV= General
Insurance (LV= GI), Halo Accident Repair Centres and The Vella Group, the practicalities
of the VRA scheme, the bene昀椀ts and barriers to using green parts, and how technology
is being used to speed up and improve interactions.
YNETIQ has seen
growth in terms of
sales of green parts in
the bodyshop industry
and was one of the
昀椀rst salvage operators to sign up
to the VRA Green Parts Standard. It
stocks around 360,000 certi昀椀ed parts
for crash repair which are up to 75%
cheaper than an equivalent OE part.
Bodyshops can source parts in a variety
of ways – online using SYNETIQ’s
green parts platform, by phone, or
simply by sending an Audatex or
GT Motive estimate and SYNETIQ’s
digitalised inventory will identify the
parts numbers and check stock without
human intervention.

“Bodyshops will hear back within the
hour on the parts we have available
that match their list,” said Michael
Hill, Green Parts Director at SYNETIQ.
“Once the system has found which
parts we have in stock, one of our team
will manually check the list for accuracy
and make sure that we haven’t missed
items that we could also supply.”
match the colour and supply images
to the bodyshop. As part of the VRA
standard’s compliance, SYNETIQ offers
a lifetime in ownership warranty on
all collision parts. Parts are graded
according to the VRA standard and
will be tracked from each donor car so
there is a history of provenance.
SYNETIQ was the 昀椀rst salvage operator
to provide a sustainability certi昀椀cate
for customers showing the carbon
saving of individual green parts and
where the product has come from.
Other dismantlers are now also doing
this. “There is clear evidence that the
repair and reuse of vehicle parts should
be the way forward to reduce the
automotive industry’s environmental
footprint,” said Michael. “It’s not only
the right thing to do for sustainability
but it is also important that everyone
has pro昀椀t going through. There is no
point if there is added cost for any
individual in that chain to use the green
parts.”
salvage including the provision of
recycled parts opportunities to our
approved network,” said Michael
Golding, LV= GI’s Network Manager.
“We support and request only recycled
parts are purchased through a VRA
certi昀椀ed recycler in accident repair. This
gives us con昀椀dence that the recycler
adheres to industry standards for the
handling, grading and management
of reclaimed parts. It also provides
parts with a traceable origin that gives
assurance to the customer, the repairer
and ourselves.
“We have seen a positive shift in
customer attitude in昀氀uenced by
environmental awareness and a
conscious preference for a sustainable
repair solution,” added Michael.
“Sustainable practices are more widely
appreciated and reclaimed parts
reduce the demand for new resources,
lower carbon emissions and limit waste.
In most cases, customers understand
that recycled parts offer identical
quality and there are no disadvantages
in having these parts 昀椀tted.”
If there is a request for something
like a door, the system will try and
