Alan Watling, the IAEA’s FIEA representative reports from the October 2024 meeting
in Greece with a number of important updates from The International Federation of
Automotive Experts (FIEA).
1. President’s Introduction
The President thanked the 15
participants for their attendance,
with a special mention to Greece and
its warm welcome. The FIEA’s last
meeting of the Board of Directors in
Athens dates back to 2009. Since then,
considerable progress has been made,
including the introduction of the Code
of Ethics. “We hope to continue this
momentum to make progress on other
initiatives at European level,” he said.
He also extended his thanks to
Constantinos Televantos, who played
a key role in the seamless and
harmonious organisation of the
three-day event, in collaboration with
the Greek teams.
He advised that the Technical Day
and the General Assembly are
focused on the technologies of
tomorrow. “The FIEA is moving
towards decarbonisation, and we
can see that the automotive world is
changing profoundly,” said Jacques
Trassoudaine. “Experts will therefore
also need to evolve with the changes.”
Finally, the President thanked Mehmet
Ali Yurtsever of TOBB (Turkiye) who was
attending his last meeting at the FIEA.
He is changing position to work as a
reinsurance broker within TOBB, and
his replacement has been appointed.
Jacques of昀椀cially thanked Mehmet for
his exemplary work, his commitment,
his loyalty and his good humour.
2. Treasurer
Eddie Speer advised that the FIEA’s
昀椀nancial situation was satisfactory
in Mons, Belgium. The cost of Mons
was fully covered by the FIEA without
any additional 昀椀nancial support from
the resident FIEA group.
have paid for a brand-new site (€2,400
instead of €24,000), he said.
3. Benoît Lamarsaude
- Compliance & Performance
Director at BCA Expertise of
France
The FIEA wishes to retain a suf昀椀cient
and representative number of experts
to strengthen its in昀氀uence. At the 2009
General Assembly in Athens, the idea
of a federation with representatives on
each continent was raised. Although
the evolution is slower than desired,
the objective remains to move in this
direction. A project to create an African
federation was also to be considered.
He explained that decarbonisation is
a global concern, and each actor has
a role to play. “Those who concern us
the most are the insurers, who have
taken measures quickly, bringing all
their partners with them,” he said.
“Increasingly, more stakeholders are
asking us to evaluate our contribution
in order to improve this situation.
Before reaching this stage, which
the FIEA had already discussed at
the General Assembly in Mons, it is
essential to lay solid foundations.”
BCA Expertise employs 650
automotive experts, has a vision
for its own Eco-score, and has
supported it with an event to promote
sustainability. This event provided
an ideal setting to discuss the social
impacts and regulatory issues of the
CSRD (European Union’s Corporate
Sustainability Reporting Directives) on
the profession of automotive expert.
Mr Lamarsaude explained the essential
role that experts will have to play in the
reduced carbonisation of the sector, as
well as the challenges they will have to
overcome to succeed in this transition.

website
5. Planning
Souleymane Coulibaly, Ivory
Coast delegate, advised that two
undertakings have already been carried
out in his sub-region of Africa by the
CIMA (Inter-African Conference of
Insurance Markets). This is an economic
group dedicated to the insurance
sector. It brings together 14 member
countries, and was founded by African
government 昀椀nance ministers. As in
Europe, the disparity in access to the
profession of experts is a major issue. It
was decided to start from a basic core
and then develop gradually. Senegal,
which has already made signi昀椀cant
progress with the creation of a national
order of expert evaluators, is a key
country in this dynamic. It remains,
however, dif昀椀cult for them to develop
further. The number of automotive
experts is not known. This is because
all other expert evaluators, outside
of medicine, are associated with
automotive expertise.
The Ivory Coast is seeking to
reproduce an FIEA model to become
a regional reference point. They are in
the 昀椀rst stage, with a ministerial decree
being prepared which should lead to
the creation of the Order of Experts.
Another initiative to accelerate this
project is the candidacy of the Ivory
