Objectives of the 2026 General
Assembly
Souleymane stressed that the General
Assembly aims above all are to
strengthen cooperation between
African experts, by setting up an
“African FIEA”. This ambitious goal
aims to create a structure that would
represent the continent’s experts,
harmonise professional standards
and contribute to the evolution of the
profession at regional level.
Progress in Côte d’Ivoire and the
Senegalese model
In Côte d’Ivoire, a ministerial decree is
being prepared to formalise an order
of insurance experts. Souleymane
mentioned the Senegalese model
as an inspiring example, where a
national order of expert evaluators has
already been established, providing a
structuring reference for the region.
Mobilisation and challenges
Souleymane explained that the main
challenge lies in the mobilisation
of CIMA member countries for the
General Assembly. Attracting and
uniting national delegations in a
context where regulatory frameworks
and professional practices may diverge,
remains a complex but necessary
priority for the success of the event.
The 2026 General Assembly would be
a unique opportunity to consolidate
links between African experts and
to formalise inter-African synergies,
for the bene昀椀t of the profession and
regional standards.
Souleymane encouraged delegates
to work together and share their
respective expertise to ensure a
smooth and sustainable growth of the
insurance adjuster/engineer profession
on the African continent.
3. Presentation of the
accounts by the treasurer,
Eddy Speer
The treasurer presented a detailed
overview of the organisation’s accounts
to assess the 昀椀nancial health of the
association and to analyse the
expenses and revenues over the past
year.
The treasurer said that the costs
relating to the organisation of events
and daily operations were managed
ef昀椀ciently, with constant vigilance
for any super昀氀uous expenses. The
year 2023 was expensive, but this
was expected. Paris, Marseille and
the General Assembly in Mons were
planned with full knowledge of the
昀椀nancial facts. The FIEA covered all
the GA costs, even though there was
a lack of candidates for organising the
event. These investments however,
have bene昀椀ted the FIEA in terms of
recognition and networking.
Looking ahead, the treasurer shared
budget forecasts for the coming year.
He stressed the need to diversify
revenue streams, including fostering
new partnerships and innovative
events.
He also announced that in view of the
non-payment of subscriptions from
Romania and Austria for 3 years, these
countries will receive a noti昀椀cation
that they will no longer be part of the
FIEA, as required by the statutes. This
action was endorsed by the Board of
Directors.
4. Council of the Liberal
Professions
CEPLIS (European Council of the
Liberal Professions, see: https://ceplis.
org) is the umbrella organisation for the
liberal professions in Europe (Brussels).
At its head is Professor Koutroubas and
his messages invariably have a very
political angle. He has unknown views
relating to mobility and European law,
but they are due to be published soon.
He is looking to integrate the status
of the automotive expert into the
documentation.
The FIEA will write a letter of intent
explaining who we are and what we
bring to society. This integration would
allow us to access Brussels in order to
give our opinion on everything relating
to the automotive sector. So, the
FIEA will endeavour to make positive
representations.
5. Sponsorship
other new sponsors. Some delegates
put forward suggestions which the
FIEA will explore.
In the same context, FUEDI (European
Federation of Loss Adjusting Experts)
wishes to enter into discussions with
the FIEA. FUEDI was present at the
Technical Day and will be inviting the
FIEA’s Steering Committee members
to network at an informal gathering
scheduled for 06 November.
6. Communication
The FIEA plays a prominent role in
the profession, and was honoured
with the attendance of Christos
Staikouras, Greek Government
Minister of Infrastructure and
Transport, including other excellent
speakers, at our Technical Day. In this
connection, the Greek delegation
stressed that Professor Kaplanis of MES
Technologies, one of the speakers,
had direct relationship with Brussels.
He works on hydrogen projects all
over Europe. He appreciates the FIEA
very much and offered to connect the
association with Brussels. This could
be a positive step to promote further
recognition of our profession.
The FIEA website has evolved. Martine
Moreau, FIEA Permanent Secretary,
announced the changes and invited
delegates to provide contributions.
The FIEA has 1,300 followers on
LinkedIn. The Technical Day has been
the subject of many publications on
LinkedIn, and has been a great facility.
The location of the 2025 AGM will be
decided at the beginning of the year.
7. Alan Watling’s document
on automotive news in the
United Kingdom and the IAEA
The meeting expressed signi昀椀cant
interest in Alan Watling’s submission,
which consisted of 18 topical subjects
relating to the UK and the IAEA, which
was read out in his absence. Although
unable to attend, his contributions
were considered essential information.
The document addressed several
safety topics relevant to the FIEA
membership, bringing members up to
date on automotive safety information
of ongoing developments in the UK. It
was decided that this initiative by Alan
should form part of the FIEA’s ongoing
agendas, with submissions from
other delegates relating to their own
countries and associations/institutes.
Particular attention was paid to
expenditure, which was well controlled.
Contacts have been made with Solera/
Sidexa and relations are good. This
organisation, currently the exclusive
sponsor of the FIEA, provides a lower
level of sponsorship than previous
years (€10,000 compared to €35,000).
If we want to retain this sponsorship,
it will be necessary to achieve a
win-win situation by providing
feedback to Solera (eg supporting
their eLearning platform, providing
content and sharing it on our website).

THE ASSESSORS JOURNAL | WINTER 2025 | www.iaea-online.org/news/the-assessor
The treasurer began with a review of
the association’s 昀椀nances, highlighting
a stable 昀椀nancial situation despite
the challenges encountered. He
noted that revenue had increased
slightly from the previous year, driven
by new memberships and strategic
partnerships.
