and theft may occur to ful昀椀l repair,
putting the general public at risk, when
these vehicles are incorrectly classi昀椀ed.
Calling for standardisation, David
said: “The AQP needs to use all their
resources to make a clear decision
to ensure the correct outcome is
achieved, but market forces sometimes
interfere with that decision point. The
revised code was designed to protect
that outcome.”
He described market factors driving
and discussing change: including
action by the regulator, the Financial
Conduct Authority (FCA), warning the
cost of car insurance will continue to
rise, and 昀椀gures from the Association
of British Insurers (ABI) showing a 33%
rise in comprehensive preimium prices
year-on-year.
GREEN PARTS
“With the expanding use of green
parts,” said David, “we are about to
see a supply and demand increased
based on the repairability of vehicles
in the marketplace. And, as claims
costs increase, then so do policies.
Therefore, it is everyone’s responsibility
to ensure costs are contained within
the scope of the Code.
“Green parts are also more acceptable
due to the supply routes we see across
the World drying up due to con昀氀ict
and increasing costs to ship. Green
parts also demonstrate further green
credentials today with a reduction in
movement to reduce carbon footprint.”
CUSTOMER IN KING
The main problem we face as an
industry is… “getting it right”
said David. “The supply of parts
infrastructure is well established, as is
the non-original supply chain. Fail to
crack this market and the opportunity
will pass,” warned David.
MORE GREEN PARTS!
What is reuseable today may not be
tomorrow, said David, referring to
electric vehicles (EVs), speci昀椀cally
emerging technologies in battery
reconditioning, fewer parts on EVs
and greater control on parts to vehicle
linking.
“The market will move forward with
its green parts supply chain and the
demand with it,” said David. “Overall,
more parts being available will mean
fewer vehicles being made a total loss.
This will mean fewer green parts will be
available.”

REQUIREMENT
This involves a detailed analysis of
repair, current market appraisal trends,
specialist market knowledge, an
understanding of what can be used
and what the customer wants.
“In conclusion,” said David, “the
market needs are changing and
demand for a sustainable outcome
is required. All stakeholders play an
important part in the future strategy
of what drives the market to perform
cleaner, more ef昀椀ciently, and in line
with the customer needs.”
JOURNAL
Increased uptake of green parts will drive “supply and demand increased
based on the repairability of vehicles in the marketplace,” said David.
