INSURANCE POLICY
UP 3.6% TO £399
ACQUIRED BY
TOKIO MARINE
Tokio Marine HCC has announced it has signed a de昀椀nitive
agreement to acquire Direct Commercial (DCL), a specialist
UK commercial motor managing general agent with more
than two decades’ experience in 昀氀eet insurance underwriting,
administration and claims services.
DCL writes over £200 million in gross written premium and
insures 1 in 9 commercial trucks on UK roads.
The acquisition includes DCL’s sister company, Direct
Commercial Premium Finance.
Go.Compare’s latest car insurance price index has revealed
that the average cost of a car insurance policy between April
and June 2026 was £399 - £14 more than in the previous
quarter, equal to an increase of 3.6%.
As well as uncovering that prices are on the rise, the
Go.Compare Index also highlights that the most basic level
of cover is on average the most expensive.
The average price of an annual third party only policy is
£546 – over a third more expensive than third party, 昀椀re and
theft cover at £382. Comprehensive policies are slightly more
expensive than third party, 昀椀re and theft, which are in line
with the overall average at £399 but offer a higher level of
protection.
IMPORTANT POLICY
UPDATE:
AIRBAGS
NO LONGER
PERMITTED ON
Effective 24 September 2026, airbags, airbag in昀氀ators and
steering wheel airbag covers are not permitted to be listed
or sold on eBay by any seller.
This policy applies across the entire airbag category.
This decision was made following a comprehensive review
of the risks these products may pose to eBay users.
Headquartered in Chelmsford, Essex, DCL is one of the
UK market’s leading and fastest-growing Motor Fleet
underwriters, providing commercial 昀氀eet cover for operators
across the UK.
DCL is a motor MGA, with the risk carried by Great Lakes
Insurance (UK) – part of the Munich Re group.
DCL’s revenue is primarily comprised of commission income
on insurance brokerage earned by the company and is
supplemented by a small revenue generated by subsidiary
undertakings from the sale and lease of vehicle telematics
systems.
IAA IS SUPPORTING
THE NEXT
GENERATION
OF ENGINEERS
IAAUK welcomed Allianz UK’s
昀椀rst-year engineering apprentices to
its IAA Banbury site, giving them the
opportunity to put classroom theory
into practice.
“Working through a series of dummy
vehicle assessments, the apprentices
gained valuable hands-on
experience of the vehicle inspection
and engineering process,” said IAA
UK. “The practical session not only
supported their coursework but also helped them build skills
that will bene昀椀t their future careers.
“This visit was a fantastic example of collaboration between
our businesses. By opening our facilities to the apprentices,
we’re helping bridge the gap between education and
industry, providing the real-world exposure that no textbook
can replicate.
“We are proud to back initiatives such as this and look
forward to continuing to work together to shape the next
generation of engineers.”
