LONDON REGION MEETING
DON’T UNDERESTIMATE
THE KEY FOB AND
ITS DATA
On 26 March 2025, the London region arranged a talk and presentation from JDA Key
Forensics Ltd at Borehamwood with Stephen Hurst and Jonathan Ashworth of JDA. The
event was well attended and received. Thanks to Glenn Cooper A.Inst.A.E.A who kindly
organised the speakers for this event and has written this report.
JDA Key Forensics are based in Wigan.
To explain a bit about JDA Key Forensics: they offer a
specialised and robust car key analysis service tailored for
insurance companies and law enforcement agencies, aimed
at preventing and detecting potential instances of fraud
related to vehicle theft or key-related crimes. With a strong
focus on security and fraud prevention, their service is
designed to provide comprehensive insights and analysis for
cases involving suspicious vehicle key activities. Reports have
been used to successfully repudiate fraudulent claims.
RAW KEY DATA
JDA highlighted the importance of not just the raw key data,
but also the importance of the methods in which each fob
updates, and the interpretation of the data. They talked
about how the data is extracted and presented in a report
which highlights not just the main points, but the reasoning
behind it; the point at which the data is logged, the triggers
for it and any potential red 昀氀ags found following the physical
and electronic examination of the key.

Stephen Hurst explained that various data tools are used to
analyse key data within the fob and transponder 昀椀tted within
key fobs. Information is extracted from the key fob and the
following are used to prepare a comprehensive report:
