PRESIDENT’S COLUMN
Welcome to the latest edition of The Assessors Journal, as we embrace Spring and some much-needed
sunshine (he hopes!).
Since the last edition we have been working hard with the ABI Technical Committee to 昀椀nalise the latest version of
the ABI Code of Practice for the categorisation of motor vehicle salvage. This also involves updating the revised
AQP exam to accommodate for the current level as set out by the ABI standard, and the transition to the new
standard and its revisions.
We are just about to launch the 昀椀rst of our Member online CPD videos in the Member area of the website. These
will give an insight into electric vehicles and battery technology in relation to loss. This works well with our 2025
Member Engagement Survey 昀椀ndings, which you can review in this edition (please see page 9).
The Institute is also carrying out research into what modern assessing looks like, the challenges that are being faced,
and the level of skill required by its Members by quali昀椀cation to address these to keep the public safe. More will
come out about this as we progress.
We are currently supporting the ‘VDA of the Year’ for Bodyshop Magazine as sponsor of
the Award, and hope to see some of our Members in the 昀椀nal eight as we move to the
interview stages.
The IAEA continues to move forward in the market with new initiatives and
collaborations to raise the pro昀椀le of its Members, and the awareness of the market
on the services offered by its Members, and what you deliver as a whole, but also
diversifying community.
We have issued the ‘hold the date’ for the AGM, which is Saturday 20 September,
with more information is available on the Member area, and we look forward to as
many of you as possible attending online and in person, as we welcome in the
President Elect to his new role of President.
Until then, let’s work together to equip the market to be better prepared for the
changes in technology, standards and, of course, professional skill sets.
